Mark L. Newton, who holds the Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designation, is the Managing Member/Owner of Newton Advisors, LLC, a consultancy that educates both institutions and retail investors on technical trends. Mark has more than 20 years of buy and sell-side experience in the financial services industry. He formerly worked as Greywolf’s Chief Technical Analyst on the NYSE trading floor, and prior to that he was with Diamondback Capital Management, where he served as a technical analyst and portfolio manager.

Mark moved to New York when he joined Morgan Stanley’s technical team in New York City, later becoming their Technical Strategist within the Strategy team of Henry McVey. Mark’s technical analysis career really began out in Chicago in the late 90s, when he traded equity options as a market maker/floor trader at the CBOE. Mark is a member of the  CMT Association, and former member of the CBOE, CBOT, and PHLX. He graduated with a BS in Finance from Virginia Tech in 1991 and obtained his Chartered Market Technician designation in 2002.

His expertise is primarily in using advanced methods of technical analysis to identify stocks, commodities, and currencies with above-average risk/reward characteristics that can maximize returns and minimize risk. In addition to employing standard technical tools to identify trend duration, relative strength, and momentum, he utilizes counter-trend analysis to identify potential trend exhaustion and reversals of trend. He appears frequently on CNBC, Fox Business, BNN, and has done interviews with Bloomberg Radio, TheStreet.com and Sina in the past. Mark is a contributor for Real Money, Yahoo Finance, and has written for CNBC Pro.
